When the bell rang at the end of the period Alfred flew from his seat like all the hounds of hell were gnawing at his heels. He was the first out the door despite being trapped in a desk at the middle of the classroom, he vanished round the corner of the door and heaven help anyone who got in the way of his rapid escape.
